"Conquest and the Conqueror" Event Held in the Faculty Library
The Socio Vision Community, operating within Ondokuz Mayıs University Çarşamba Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, organized another meaningful event. The event titled "Conquest and the Conqueror" was held in a warm and engaging atmosphere in the faculty library, with Prof. Dr. Rıza Karagöz from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences serving as the guest speaker.
In his talk, Prof. Dr. Karagöz evaluated the political situation of the Ottoman Empire in the period leading up to the conquest of Constantinople, as well as the general state of European powers at the time. Emphasizing the strategic importance of Istanbul from both political and geographical perspectives, Karagöz highlighted the conquest not only as a military achievement but also as a turning point in the history of civilization. He detailed the process of the conquest in light of historical documents and drew attention to its long-term impact on both Turkish and world history.
The event was attended by Faculty Dean Prof. Dr. İbrahim Serbestoğlu, Vice Dean Dr. Özkan Özer Keskin, Head of the Department of History Dr. Hakan Tan, Research Assistants Burak Nazif Sarıcı and Sevgi Akkoyun, as well as the Socio Vision Community administration, its members, and many students.
Following the presentation, students had the opportunity to ask Prof. Dr. Karagöz their questions during the Q&A session, allowing them to deepen their historical understanding. The event concluded with Esma Nur Coşkun, Vice President of the Socio Vision Community and a second-year history student, presenting a commemorative gift to Prof. Dr. Karagöz.
