At Ondokuz Mayıs University Mustafa Kemal Güneşdoğdu Campus, the “Disaster Awareness Training” was held on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. The training, organized within the framework of cooperation between the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency and the Council of Higher Education, was delivered by the Samsun Provincial Directorate of Disaster and Emergency. During the training, special emphasis was placed on earthquakes in order to raise disaster awareness. Participants were introduced to approaches to disasters within the framework of the concepts of “hazard, risk, and capacity,” and it was emphasized that Türkiye is located in an earthquake zone and that being prepared for such risks is of great importance. It was also stated that existing capacity can be enhanced through measures to be taken against disasters. Within the scope of the program, what should be done before, during, and after a disaster was discussed in detail. In addition, participants were informed about preparing an emergency kit, developing appropriate behavior after disasters, and key considerations in participating in volunteer activities. At the end of the training, which was attended by a large number of academic staff and students, certificates of participation were awarded. The program made significant contributions to increasing social awareness of disasters and fostering well-informed individuals.
